Update: Frigid weather cancels run, but community still invited to gather

The community is invited to the 1st Annual Walk/Run 5k “Freezin For A Reason” to honor the memory of Gunnar Anderson. Due to frigid temperatures and dangerous windchills, the Run/Walk portion of the event has been cancelled. However, everyone is still encouraged to attend the social at Bethelehem Lutheran Church.

Proceeds of the event help raise money for the "Be the Change Foundation" that will provide funds to local youth who want to follow in Gunnar's footsteps -- to make a difference in the lives of others-- through compassion, good deeds and selfless acts.

Everyone is invited to stop by Bethlehem Lutheran Church to get T-shirts in support of the foundation, to share a meal and refreshments and to share memories of Gunnar with friends and family. The Freezin' for a Reason gathering is Sunday, December 31 from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Grand Marais.

For more information, contact Jess Rodne at or call 218-370-9813.

WTIP's Sherrie Lindskog learned more about the event (before the frigid weather caused organizers to cancel for safety reasons) in this interview.
