Mist of Avalon draws large crowds to Rendezvous Days

The Rendezvous Days at Grand Portage National Monument over the weekend was a huge success. According to Park Ranger Beth Drost, this year’s celebration drew approximately 8,000 people, which is the highest total in years. Drost said a primary reason for increased attendance this year was likely the Mist of Avalon, a Canadian vessel which is now headed for the Tall Ships Festival in Duluth. More than 1,600 people rode out to get a closer look at the Avalon this weekend as it was anchored off shore near the Grant Portage National Monument Heritage Centre.
