According to the Minnesota Department of Health, COVID-19 is a viral respiratory illness caused by a coronavirus that has not been found in people before. In early 2020, this virus is making daily headlines internationally and across the United States, including here in Minnesota.

On March 2, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz said the state is preparing for the arrival of the coronavirus that emerged in China several months ago.

Walz said preparation is not panic in this instance, also stating that the new coronavirus will get to Minnesota at some point.

WTIP’s Joe Friedrichs spoke with Cook County Public Health Coordinator Grace Grinager about the coronavirus and what local health officials are doing in preparation should COVID-19 arrive on the North Shore.
