American Legion law enforcement officer and firefighter of the year awarded

Each year the American Legion Honors a law enforcement officer and a firefighter during September Disaster Preparedness Month in line with the Legion's fourth pillar of national security. They are recognized for their exemplary service to the community and their dedication to their profession.

This year's recipients of American Legion Post #413 law enforcement officer and firefighter of the year are Deputy Jonathan Baumann from the Cook County Sheriff's Department and Firefighter Aaron Mielke.

Pictured in the slideshow is Baumann with his family accepting the award.  In the second photo, Mielke's family accepts the award on his behalf.  Mielke at the time was in California helping out with the wildfires and has since returned home.
