Community Engagement Initiative |
Community Engagement Initiative update |
In Spring 2007, WTIP received a grant from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting to participate in the Community Engagement Initiative. The initiative is designed to engage people in discussions about the kind of community they hope to live in, their concerns and what can be done to create a positive future. Since June, WTIP has hosted a number of community conversations to discuss the question, “What kind of community do you want?”
The WTIP Spotlight (below) discusses the results of the conversations we have held so far.
Community Engagement leads to:
- Give and take between and among people;
- Consideration of different perspectives and points of view;
- Weighing of choices and trade-offs;
- Greater community strength;
- A fostering of civic values that help us to work together toward solutions, to trust one another and share a common sense of direction.
Many people have already participated in the conversations, and WTIP continues to extend an invitation to anyone wishing to participate.
Ways you can get involved:
- Host a Community Conversation;
- Join a Community Conversation hosted by your group/friend/neighbor;
- Think about what kind of community you want.
- Think about how you can talk to and listen to others in a way that is considerate and thoughtful.
- Quell gossip.
- Assume that people have good motives.
- Use your influence to build a better community.
- Take time to consider – what is our common good--for now and for the future of this community?

WTIP Installs new Sound Board |
WTIP is proud to announce that we have recently installed a new broadcast-quality sound board in our main studio, replacing the original band mixing board, which was limited and outdated. The new board was funded in full by a grant from the Lloyd K. Johnson Foundation and will provide reliable broadcast capabilities for years to come.
