North Shore Culinary classes begin January 2019

A new program in Grand Marais will offer culinary arts certification and training designed to empower students to achieve their full potential in the culinary arts field. Officially known as 'North Shore Culinary – Hibbing Community College,' the program will begin in January 2019.

The opportunities afforded to the students in the North Shore Culinary program will include an Earn While You Learn aspect that makes this program unique. Cook County Higher Education will be able to connect each student to a paid culinary job part-time during the school year and full time during the summer months.  Students will work and learn side by side with chefs in many of Cook County’s world-class kitchens, helping to cover tuition costs for each participant while attending NSC-HCC.  Classes will be held 7 ½ hours a day, Monday – Thursday, in the new, state-of-the-art culinary classroom at Cook County High School.
 
In addition, Cook County Higher Education has developed optional programming for students that will enrich a student’s time while in culinary school.  The bonus programming will help students build resumes, provide guidance on future employment options and develop business knowledge, leadership abilities and healthy living skills.
 
WTIP’s Joe Friedrichs spoke with Kelsey Kennedy from CCHE and Judi Barsness, the North Shore Culinary chef ambassador, about the new program.
