Temperatures are expected to drop below zero tonight for most of Cook County and along the North Shore. That could lead to hazardous road conditions throughout the region. Cook County Highway Department crews have plowed, sanded and salted all county roads as of 6 p.m. on Thursday. This was done in an effort to manage slippery conditions.

Dropping temps and winds can impact how effective salt and sand are in keeping roads safe. Motorists are reminded to use extra caution as roads are still slippery with the weather conditions. Slow down, allow for extra stopping time and give equipment a safe perimeter.

Highway crews will resume operations at 4 a.m. on Friday.
