Stephen Brede of Petoskey, Mich. has a life goal to canoe around all five Great Lakes. Dick caught up with him July 30, when he was windbound on an island near Rossport, Ontario, and talked with him about the why and how of his adventure. New smartphone app lets you help with fisheries management

A new app called iFish Forever allows anglers to anonymously share their catch info, in support of cutting-edge research and responsible management. Prof. Paul Venturelli of the U of MN department of fisheries, wildlife, and conservation biology, helped create the app. He spoke with Dick May 29 about how it works and why it will help the DNR and other entities make better decisions.

Jan Horak of Tofte, who with his wife Kathy owns and runs Cobblestone Cabins, is a veteran cross-country skier about to ski his 36th Birkebeiner this year. Lonnie Dupre summitted Denali a few weeks ago after three previous attempts, becoming the first person to ever accomplish this solo in January. Matthew Brown reaches 50,000 lifetime sailing miles on Caribbean adventure

WTIP Program Director Matthew Brown had a goal of sailing 50,000 miles by the time he was 50. He just completed the last 3,000 miles, on a sailing adventure from the north coast of Africa to Antigua, sailing with an organization called the Jubilee Sailing Trust. Their mission is to enable people of all physical abilities to sail. Dick caught up with Matthew Jan. 9 to learn all about it.
