On Earth Day, April 22, Cook County’s Dave and Amy Freeman of the Wilderness Classroom Organization began an 11,000 mile expedition, traveling across North America by kayak, canoe, and dogsled.

Roger Linehan and Jay Andersen checked on their progress Wednesday morning, June 23  on WTIPs “Daybreak” program.

The journey began with the team kayaking along the Pacific Coast. They were most recently at Petersburg, Alaska, roughly 200 miles south of Skagway. From Skagway, the team will progress over the mountains in the footsteps of the Klondike Gold Rush, to the home of Inuit along the Arctic Ocean.

Dave and Amy are not alone on their journey -- students, teachers, and learners of all ages are participating daily as photos, videos, and text are posted to the North American Odyssey website via satellite.  You can follow their adventures at www.northamericanodyssey.com
