Care Partners seeks “Senior Rides” volunteers

Who: 
Care Partners of Cook County

Care Partners of Cook County is seeking volunteers for their “Senior Rides” program. The volunteers will provide rides for those 60 and older to out of county medical, dental, and eye appointments. In addition, Senior Rides will offer rides within Cook County for medical appointments, as well as wellness and social activities. Volunteers will be reimbursed for mileage.

Cook County Community Education classes & events

Where: 
Cook County Community Center, Grand Marais

Cook County Community Education hosts a variety of classes and events for youth and adults.

Cook County Senior Center events and activities

Where: 
Cook County Senior Center, Grand Marais

 The Cook County Senior Center in Grand Marais hosts a variety of events and activities.
  
Senior Center lunch: Lunch is available at the Senior Center every weekday, Monday through Friday. Reservations must be called in by 9:30 am each day. 

Seeking new recipes: Community members are invited to submit recipes for future menus, including main dishes, salads, and desserts. Recipes can be emailed to seniors@boreal.org or dropped off at the Senior Center.
 
Arrowhead Transit: Call 800-862-0175 option 8. Assistance with problems is available from Bev at 387-2660.

North House Folk School classes, events, and activities

Where: 
North House Folk School, Grand Marais

North House Folk School, on the harbor in Grand Marais, offers classes in northern craft and hosts a variety of public events and activities.

Donations for Boats to Tools Auction:  North House Folk School is preparing for the Boats to Tools Auction, part of the annual Wooden Boat Show, June 19 through 21.  Donations of boats, tools, and all things North Shore are welcome.  More information from Kaitlyn Bohlin at 387-9762.

The North House Folk School campus is located at 500 West Hwy 61, on the harbor in Grand Marais. Local residents receive a 25% discount on class fees. Single-family housing loans and grants

Who: 
USDA Rural Development Agency

The USDA Rural Development Agency, headquartered in Virginia, MN, is accepting applications from people who want to purchase a home or make repairs to existing homes. The loans are available to low-income families who wish to buy or repair homes located in rural communities. Applicants must meet income and credit guidelines. Volunteer drivers needed for VA appointments

Who: 
Northeast Veterans Transportation Program

The Northeast Veterans Transportation Program will provide rides to veterans at no cost. Any Veteran traveling for a VA scheduled appointment is eligible to use this service. The program is seeking volunteer drivers. More information is available from Veterans Service Officer Pat Strand at 387-3639.
