Sixth Judicial District Judge Kenneth Sandvik will not run for a sixth term. Sandvik, whose district includes Lake and Cook Counties, reportedly said since he hadn’t solved the world’s problems it was time to give someone else a turn.
So far two Duluth attorneys and one from Two Harbors say they’ll run for Sandvik’s seat on the bench. The Duluthians are Mike Cuzzo of the Cuzzo and Envall law firm and John Lind, who is the current sixth judicial public defender. Two Harbors attorney Timothy Costley will also run.
Sandvik, 62, was appointed a state District Court judge by then-Governor Rudy Perpich in 1984. He was elected in a contested election in 1986; in three subsequent elections he ran unopposed.
