Senior Linkage Line Medicare presentation and individual counseling

The Cook County Senior Center presents a Senior Linkage Line Medicare presentation and individual counseling Thursday, April 27th. Steve Deschene and Marjori Bottila (BAH-tala) will present “New to Medicare” from 10 am to noon. The presentation will help attendees understand what is new in Medicare and what the changes are for 2017. Individual counseling appointments are available from 8 to 9:30 am and 12:30 to 4 pm. Tell-a-Story Day

Arboreal Writing Contest

28th Annual Cook County Emergency Services Conference

The 28th Annual Cook County Emergency Services Conference in Grand Marais is Saturday, April 29. Anyone with an interest in becoming involved in our local Search & Rescue, First Responder organizations, or Fire Departments, or who just wants to role play for the day to help our emergency services train, is encouraged to participate. Unwanted prescription drug round-up

The Cook County Sheriff’s Office is hosting an unwanted prescription drug round-up April 29, from 10 am to 2 pm. There is no charge and no questions will be asked. Only pills and patches are accepted. Drop-off sites are:
          Grand Portage Clinic
          Cook County Law Enforcement Center
          Tofte Fire Hall

Childrens’ Story Hour with the Muffin Man and Duluth Poet Laureate Ellie Schoenfeld

Spring burning restrictions

Cook, Lake, and northern St. Louis counties

Spring burning restrictions go into effect Monday, April 24 for Cook, Lake, and northern St. Louis counties. During spring restrictions, the state will not give out burning permits for brush or yard waste, and residents may need to find alternatives to burning, especially during April and May. The restrictions usually last from four to six weeks until sufficient green growth occurs. Burning restrictions do not apply to campfires, although campers are encouraged to watch them continuously and ensure ashes are cold to the touch before leaving.

Free fluoride well-testing

The Oral Health Task Force is offering free fluoride well-testing for families, day-cares, and other homes where children either live or visit on a consistent basis. This offer includes pre-natal moms and young adults up to 26 years old. More information is available from Georgene at 218-387-2334.
