Chore Service for Seniors

Care Partners provides chore service assistance to help seniors remain in their homes. Volunteers who enjoy connecting with others are needed to help with short-term light housekeeping, yard work and other seasonal tasks, and household maintenance. Volunteers receive training and mileage reimbursement. More information is available from Kelly Holtzman, Care Partner's Chore Coordinator, at 387-3788.

Poetry Sidewalk Submissions

The Grand Marais Public Library plans to construct a new poetry sidewalk from the library entrance to the street corner across from Visit Cook County and the Dairy Queen. Application forms for those wishing to submit a poem may be picked up at the library or City Hall, or on-line at the library website at grand marais library dot org
The deadline for submission is Friday, May 20th.

Safety Training

Saturday, May 7th, public safety agencies will be conducting a day-long exercise at Cook County High School. 
The doors will be locked and the main building will be used for active shooter training. 
The public may see many public safety vehicles outside and hear noises like fire-crackers going off. 

Ferns of the North Shore, May 7

Honor Our Elders Pow Wow

The Grand Portage Band of Lake Superior Chippewa will host an “Honor Our Elders” pow wow on Saturday, May 7, at the Grand Portage Community Center. Ruby’s Pantry

Ruby’s Pantry will have a food distribution May 10 from 5 to 6:30 pm at the Cook County High School cafeteria. Participants must bring containers to receive food. All are welcome. WTIP Radio Annual Meeting

WTIP Community Radio hosts their annual membership meeting Tuesday, May 10th at Vogageur Brewing Company. The event starts at 5 pm with social hour and appetizers, followed by a business meeting at 5:30, and a presentation by Mike Stewart from the National Weather Service at 6 pm. Annual memberships can be renewed at the event.

Bike Safety Rodeo

The Grand Marais Safe Routes to School Committee invites all kids and parents to the annual Bike Safety Rodeo Thursday, May 12th from 3 to 5 pm at the Cook County Community Center. There will be bike checks, helmet fittings and decorating, riding course, and food. Limited loaner helmets are available. Signed permission slips are required. GES Greenhouse Plant Sale & Pancake Breakfast

Great Expectations School will host their annual Greenhouse Plant Sale and Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, May 21, from 8 am to 1 pm. A wide variety of hardy perennials, flowering annuals, garden-ready veggies and fragrant herbs will be available.  The pancake breakfast also begins at 8 am, and lasts until the pancakes run out.  More information is available from the school, by phone at 218-387-9322.

Art ' Round Town in Grand Marais

Art 'Round Town invites artists to submit banner designs for the downtown light posts in Grand Marais. The designs should be seasonal, appropriate to the area, and reproducible as one and two color screen prints. All entries will be voted on by attendees at an art show June 10-12, and then the committee will choose the final designs. The deadline for design submission is June 1 at the Betsy Bowen Studio.
