Cook County Senior Center Lunch Monday, December 18th

Today's noon meal at the Cook County Senior Center is honey-glazed meatballs, potato, mixed vegetables, dessert, and milk. Reservations can be made by calling 387-2660 by 9:30 this morning. 

 

Cook County AA, Al-Anon, and CoDA Meetings, Monday, December 18th

There are regular meetings of AA, Al-Anon, and CoDA in Cook County and you can find a complete schedule of those meetings on our website, under the Ongoing Events menu.

On Monday, in Grand Marais, there's a CoDependents Anonymous meeting at 5:30 p.m. and an Al-Anon meeting at 7 p.m., both at the First Congregational Church; and at 7 p.m. there's an AA Open Meeting at the Senior Center.

Stormwater management plan meeting

The public is invited to a Grand Marais stormwater management plan meeting on Wednesday, December 20th, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Cook County commissioner’s room at the court house. The meeting will provide discussion about what is included in making a management plan, and there will be time to share issues and concerns. 
 

Scholastic Holiday Book Fair

The annual Scholastic Holiday Book Fair continues through Wednesday, December 20th, at Birch Grove Community School. The Fair is open to the public Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and there will be extended hours after the 6 p.m. winter musical performance on Tuesday, December 19th. Details at 663-0170.

Grand Marais Writers’ Guild December 21

Hovland Family Christmas Concert

All are invited to a Hovland Family Christmas Concert on Thursday, December 21st, at 7 p.m. at the Hovland Town Hall. More than seven music groups will take part in the concert. You’re invited to bring a plate of Christmas treats to share.
 
 

Outdoor ice rinks open

The Cook County Community Center outdoor ice rinks will open Friday, December 22nd, depending on the weather. Hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. during the school break, except closing at 4:30 p.m. on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve; and closed Christmas Day and New Year's Day. There is no charge to skate and a rink attendant is available to help with skates. More information is available at 387-3015.

Isle Royale National Park's 2018 Artist-in-Residence Program

Applications for Isle Royale National Park's 2018 Artist-in-Residence Program are accepted between January 2nd and February 16th, 2018. This program provides artists the opportunity to become part of the tradition of interpreting national parks through art. The program runs from July through early September. Each residency is scheduled for two to three weeks and the selected artist will be given the use of a canoe and a rustic cabin while on the island. Gunflint Mail Run Sled Dog race

The Gunflint Mail Run Sled Dog race is Saturday, January 6th. The race starts and finishes at Trail Center Lodge, located half-way up the Gunflint Trail. Volunteers are needed for the race. More information and sign-up details are available by email at gunflint mail run dot com.
