Rib Feast benefit for Birch Grove Community School

Schroeder Baking Company is hosting a Rib Feast to benefit the Birch Grove Community School on Thursday, October 26th, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the Schroeder Town Hall. The menu is BBQ ribs, cheesy potatoes, Caesar salad, rolls, and dessert. Children under 11 eat free, hot dogs available for them. To-go boxes will be available for takeout. Details at 663-0170.

Cook County Higher Education presents “Judge C. R. Magney, the North Shore, and the Controversy Surrounding Highway 61” on Thursday, October 26th, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the North Shore Campus. Instructor Phil Anderson will focus on the controversy in the 1930s and early 40s of extending the highway from Reservation River to the Pigeon River. There were issues of wilderness conservation, tourism, safety, relations with Canada, and the needs of the residents of Grand Portage before the completion of the highway. Donations appreciated. Acoustic Grooves

Acoustic Grooves is a benefit to help raise money for a new shelter for the Cook County Arrowhead Animal Rescue, on Sunday, October 29th, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Arrowhead Center for the Arts. Tickets are available online at arrowhead center for the arts dot tix dot com or at the door at 1 p.m. The Master of Ceremonies is Tyler Howell; and performers are Michael Monroe, Joe Paulik, and the Hot Jazz Duo: Briand Morrison and Sam Miltitch.
