“Geology of our Area”

Chik-Wauk Museum and Nature Center hosts “Geology of our Area” Sunday, August 27th from 2 to 3 p.m. Don Wendel, local geologist, presents a study of the Saganaga Batholith on which Chik-Wauk is located. There is no charge for the presentation; donations are appreciated. Details at 388-9915.
Chik-Wauk Museum and Nature Center is located on the Gunflint Trail (Cook County Road 12) about 55 miles from Grand Marais.
 

Two-hour cruise on Lake Superior

North Shore Commercial Fishing Museum invites you to a two-hour cruise on Lake Superior aboard the Wenonah, on Tuesday, August 29th. The cruise leaves from the Silver Bay Marina, travels up the coast past Palisade Head, and is narrated by Art Fenstad. Boarding begins at 4:30 p.m.; reservations are required at 663-7050.
 

Seed Saving Class

You’re invited to a Seed Saving Class with Grant Olson on Tuesday, August 29th, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Cook County Community Center. Olson has worked with Seed Savers Exchange in Decorah, Iowa, and developed curriculum and a seed school. The class is sponsored by Cook County Master Gardeners and U of M Extension. Volunteer drivers needed

Senior Rides Program needs volunteer drivers to provide rides for those 60 and older to out-of-county medical, dental, and eye appointments, to meet transportation needs not met by Arrowhead Transit or friends and relatives. Senior Rides also offers transportation within Cook County for medical appointments, as well as wellness and social activities. Volunteers are reimbursed for mileage and can choose their assignments. Rural Rides

Arrowhead Economic Opportunity Agency (AEOA) sponsors Rural Rides, a program for those experiencing transportation difficulties. Rural Rides may be able to offer bus passes at no charge, volunteer drivers, or work buddy mileage reimbursement. More information is available from Anita Jeziah, at 218-387-4547.
