WIC Program for Young Families

The Women, Infants, and Children Nutrition Program, better known as WIC, is available for women who are pregnant or recently had babies. Parents of children under the age of five also are eligible for WIC. A family that qualifies for the WIC program receives education about nutrition, healthy foods from the grocery store every month, health and growth checkups for children, and breastfeeding information and support. Grand Marais Art Colony classes, events, and announcements

Grand Marais Art Colony

The Grand Marais Art Colony offers exhibits, events, activities and classes in a variety of media and for adults and kids. Classes are held from 9 am to 4 pm unless otherwise noted.

Cook County Higher Ed North Shore Campus, Grand Marais

Cook County Higher Education in Grand Marais hosts a variety of classes and events. All are at the Higher Ed North Shore Campus at 3rd Street and 3rd Avenue in Grand Marais, unless otherwise noted. Higher Ed also coordinates continuing education programs in the community and partnerships with educational institutions.

AARP Driver Safety Classes

Minnesota drivers aged 55+ receive a 10% auto insurance discount by taking an approved eight-hour driver safety/accident reduction class. Drivers maintain the discount by taking a four-hour refresher class every three years. AARP sponsors the beginning and refresher classes at various locations in Cook County.

Dog Park now open in Grand Marais

Gunflint Horse Arena, Grand Marais

The new dog park located at the Gunflint Horse Arena is now open. The park provides a fenced in space that allows well behaved dogs to be off leash safe from traffic, predators, and traps, while socializing with other dogs. The dog park is located near the corner of the "old" Gunflint Trail and the "new" Gunflint Trail, just north of the Recycling Center in Grand Marais. Open “dog parties” are held every Wednesday afternoons from 3:30 to 5:30 and Sunday afternoons from 3 until 5.  More information about the Gunflint Dog Park is available online at

Sugarloaf Cove Nature Center

Sugarloaf Cove Nature Center, SW of Schroeder

Sugarloaf Cove southwest of Schroeder is a 35-acre preserved site, with foot trails leading to a beautiful sheltered cove on the lake, and including a 7.5-acre Minnesota Scientific and Natural Area, open to the public. Trails are open from dawn to dusk year-round.

Care Partners seeks “Senior Rides” volunteers

Care Partners of Cook County

Care Partners of Cook County seeks additional volunteer drivers for their “Senior Rides” program. The volunteers provide rides for those 60 and older to out-of-county medical, dental, and eye appointments, to meet tranportation needs not met by Arrowhead Transit or friends and relatives. In addition, Senior Rides offers transportation within Cook County for medical appointments, as well as wellness and social activities. Volunteers are reimbursed for mileage and can choose their assignments.

North House Folk School, Grand Marais

North House Folk School, on the harbor in Grand Marais, offers classes in northern craft and hosts a variety of public events and activities.

The North House Folk School campus is located at 500 West Hwy 61, on the harbor in Grand Marais. Local residents receive a 25% discount on class fees.
