Senior Rides Program

Senior Rides Program needs volunteer drivers to provide rides for those 60 and older to out-of-county medical, dental, and eye appointments, to meet transportation needs not met by Arrowhead Transit or friends and relatives. Senior Rides also offers transportation within Cook County for medical appointments, as well as wellness and social activities. Volunteers are reimbursed for mileage and can choose their assignments. Cook County AA, Al-Anon, and CoDA Meetings, Friday September 30th

There are regular AA, Al-Anon, and CoDA meetings in Cook County.
Fridays, there is an "As Bill Sees It" Discussion Group, Open Meeting, at 7:30 pm at the First Congregational Church in Grand Marais, .

Annual Art Auction Thunder Bay Art Gallery

The Thunder Bay Art gallery is hosting their Annual Art Auction, Friday, September 30th. The auction includes works by over 40 area artists, and the proceeds support gallery education and exhibition programs. The preview is at 7 pm and the live auction is at 8 pm. The event includes appetizers, live music, and raffles. Seating is limited. Tickets and more information are available online at Thunder Bay Art Gallery.

15th annual Birkie Trail Run & Trek

 The 15th annual Birkie Trail Run & Trek will take place in the surrounding hills of Hayward, Wisconsin on Saturday, October 1st. The event offers a 100K ultra marathon and a 5k run/walk. More information is available from Nancy at 715-638-2637.

Tour d'Art

The Grand Marais Art Colony will host the Tour d'Art fundraiser Saturday, October 1st. The event includes a tour of four homes on the Cascade Beach Road and a private reception. Transportation is provided and more information and reservations are available at 218-387-2737.

“One Community, One Book”

The Grand Marais Public Library and WTIP, along with the Grand Marais Art Colony, are sponsoring a “One Community, One Book” read this fall. Everyone is encouraged to read “The Road Back to Sweetgrass,” an award-winning novel by Linda LeGarde Grover, a member of the Bois Forte (boys fort) Band of Ojibwe. 

Book-related events are planned for the first week in November, including two talks by the author, presentations by local community members, and a memoir-writing workshop. All events are free and open to the public.

Cook County Farm & Craft Market, October 1st

Cook County Farm & Craft Market is held each Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Senior Center parking lot. A variety of arts and crafts as well as baked goods, starter plants and more are offered by more than 20 vendors. 
 

Guided Hikes

Superior Hiking Trail Association

The Superior Hiking Trail Association is hosting an 8.7 mile guided hike Saturday, October 1st. Participants will meet at the Otter Lake Road Trailhead at 10 am, and hike through maple forests to the high point of the Superior Hiking Trail. The Association is also hosting a 5.1 mile hike on the Arrowhead Trail, on Sunday, October 2nd. Hikers will meet at the Trailhead at 10 am for a hike along the rocky ridges of the Arrowhead.
