Salvation Army's Red Kettle Campaign

Salvation Army's Red Kettle Campaign continues through Saturday, December 24th. Bell ringers are needed at three locations: Tofte General Store, in Tofte; and in Grand Marais, at Johnson Foods, and Gene's Foods. Surviving the Zombie Apocalypse

As part of its “Surviving the Zombie Apocalypse” series, Tettegouche State Park is offering a Twine and Cordage class Saturday, December 10th, from 9 am to 3 pm. The class will focus on wild sources of fibers for making cords and ropes to meet survival needs. Pre-registration is required by email to kurt dot mead at state dot m n dot u s. Tettagouche State Park is located on Highway 61 near Silver Bay.
 

Arts & Crafts Unlimited Holiday Show

Parents’ Night Out

The Cook County YMCA sponsors Parents’ Night Out Saturday, December 10th,  from 5 to 8 pm. Activities are provided for children ages 4 months and up. Youth ages 5 and older will go swimming, and the evening will end with a child-friendly movie. Preregistration is required and space is limited. More information is available at 387-3386.

Mystery Medicinal Plants

Each Monday the Grand Marais Public Library features a “mystery” medicinal plant. Library visitors will have the opportunity to guess at what they think the plant might be, then check their answer and receive additional information about the plant. Book fair and school musical

Birch Grove Community School is hosting a Holiday Scholastic Book Fair, Monday, December 12th through Friday, December 16th. The school receives Scholastic dollars from every book purchase. The annual school musical, Flakes! A Musical Celebration of Snow, Slush and Snirt! takes place during the Book Fair on Wednesday, December 14th at 1pm and 6 pm. Everyone is invited.

Ruby's Pantry December 13th

Ruby’s Pantry is holding a food distribution Tuesday, December 13th, from 5 to 6:30 pm, at the Cook County High School cafeteria. Participants must bring coolers and grocery-sized containers to receive food. All are welcome. Volunteers are needed from 3:30 pm until distribution ends at 6:30 pm.
