Local Food Market Thursday, Sept. 21

The Local Food Market is open every Thursday, from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Cook County Community Center parking lot. They feature locally grown vegetables, baked goods, eggs, and a variety of seasonal items each week. More information is available from Diane at 387-3015.

Grand Marais Writers’ Guild

Cook County AA, Al-Anon, and CoDA Meetings, Thursday, September 21st

There's a Women's AA meeting, noon at the First Congregational Church in Grand Marais;

There's an AA open meeting and discussion, 6:30 pm in the Lutsen Fire Hall meeting room;

There's an AA meeting, 7 pm in the Grand Portage Lodge, Room 232;

There's an AA Big Book Study Group, 7 pm at the Senior Center in Grand Marais.

 

Gather for Peace

Kick Off camping night

Cook County Girl Scouts are hosting a Kick Off camping night to welcome girls to scouting. Participants will meet after school on Friday, September 22nd, at the blue building in the Recreation Park. Kindergarten through 12th grade girls are invited to participate. There is no charge for the event, but all who participate must be dropped off by an adult, and must have a signed permission slip. Chik-wauk Museum and Nature Center is hosting guest speaker, Evan Larson, Saturday, September 23rd, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Larson and his team will discuss and display artifacts of bark-peeled pine. These living and dead trees are rare cultural features present in areas like the Boundary Waters Canoe Area.

There is no charge for this family-friendly presentation.

ATV Club ride to South Brule

Cook County ATV Club riders will meet at Steve's Sports parking lot at 9 a.m. on Sunday, September 24th, for a ride to South Brule to meet other riders, and then on to Hungry Jack Lodge for lunch on your own. The ride will take place if there is light rain, but if there is heavy rain and thunder, everyone is invited to travel by car to gather for lunch.

Community Connect Resource Fair

The Arrowhead Economic Opportunity Agency is hosting the Community Connect Resource Fair on Monday, September 25th, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Cook County Community Center. Over 40 service programs will be represented, including a walk-in private “Ask an Attorney” option. The Fair includes a complimentary meal, YMCA childcare, and Arrowhead Transit bus service, as well as door prizes and more. Details from Anita at 218-387-4547. 
 

Bowl-making sessions

Starting Monday, September 25th, the Grand Marais Art Colony is offering bowl-making sessions using clay or glass, in support of the Empty Bowls fundraiser. This is an opportunity to donate to the event while learning the basics of pottery and fused glass. Sessions are open to all ability levels and ages. Pre-registration is required.
