Community Support
From Cook County Sheriff June 1, 2007
Having the ability to communicate with people in a rural area accurately and effectively can be a very challenging task. But WTIP helped us meet this challenge and respond quickly, effectively, professionally, and most importantly, accurately.
The Ham Lake Fire was one of the worst natural disasters this county has ever seen. Although this fire posed significant danger and caused extensive damage to the Gunflint Trail community, there is much to be proud of. No lives were lost. WTIP helped accomplish this and can be proud that your efforts had a significant role in the overall success in response to this fire.
The commitment and dedication of WTIP and its volunteers to this community is paramount. WTIP truly went "above and beyond the call of duty" and again has proven to be an important asset to this community.
From the Broyles' National Incident Management Team May 19, 2007
We would like to say thanks for your incredible work in keeping people informed as this fast-moving wildfire affected your listeners. Your station provided an outstanding service to people in your listening area and worldwide through online web streaming coverage of this incident. Your efforts were essential to our work in the community and we are deeply grateful for your help.
From the Cook County Board of Commissioners April 10, 2007
As a true local station, WTIP fills a "nitch" for the residents, visitors, businesses, and government agencies in Cook County. It offers local programming that is both entertaining and innovative. It provides educational opportunities for local students who are interested in the field of communications. It is also a source of local news, reporting on events, issues, and sporting events that are important to the local community.
From a county perspective, one of WTIP's major accomplishments has been the expansion of its coverage area, which now reaches the outlying parts of Cook County. In case of lacal emergencies or criseis, WTIP is a critical resource that local law enforcement and emergency management personnel can use to disseminate up-to-date information, warnings, and directives to the entire county.
