The Campaign to Save the Boundary Waters, led by Northeastern Minnesotans for Wilderness, began as a local effort in 2013 and has grown into a national movement. The goal of the organization is to permanently protect the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness from proposed copper-nickel mines near the federally protected wilderness.

During a visit to Duluth Wednesday, Aug. 8, Vice President Mike Pence claimed the proposed copper-nickel mines in the region were likely to move forward, including the statement “take it to the bank,” in reference to the mines.

Becky Rom is the National Campaign Chair for the Save the Boundary Waters Campaign. During an interview with WTIP’s Joe Friedrichs, Rom addressed Pence’s statements and shared an update on the Save the Boundary Waters Campaign.
